SIX (2017–2018)

Six (2017–2018), a History Channel series, spans two seasons with 18 episodes, each around 60 minutes. Created by William and David Broyles, it follows Navy SEAL Team Six on high-stakes missions while exploring their personal lives. The story kicks off in 2014 Afghanistan, where the team, led by Rip Taggart (Walton Goggins), aims to kill a Taliban leader but discovers an American traitor, Michael Nasry (Dominic Adams). This betrayal sets the tone for Season 1, as Rip’s brutal methods—like scalping an enemy—lead to his capture by Boko Haram, forcing his team, including Joe “Bear” Graves (Barry Sloane), Alex Caulder (Kyle Schmid), and Ricky “Buddha” Ortiz (Juan Pablo Raba), to rescue him. Season 2 shifts to Bear’s leadership, tracking a jihadist network across Eastern Europe, introducing new foes like The Prince (Nikolai Nikolaeff).
The series shines in its raw depiction of missions—tense raids, like the school siege in the pilot, are gripping, showing the SEALs’ skill and the moral grayness of their choices. Rip’s descent into darkness, especially his PTSD-fueled actions, is a highlight, with Goggins delivering a haunting performance. The team’s camaraderie feels authentic, but their personal arcs—Bear’s failing marriage, Buddha’s family pressures—often lean on familiar tropes. Season 2 deepens the stakes with a global conspiracy, though the villains remain underdeveloped, relying on stereotypes. The show’s attempt to balance action with emotional depth sometimes falters, with subplots like Caulder’s addiction feeling rushed. Canceled after a 50% ratings drop, it ends unresolved. With a 7.2/10 on IMDb, Six offers intense action and character moments but struggles with originality.
